I am so sorry for being away for a while without telling anyone. When I was away, I needed to take out time to do something on my computer, so I sought a quiet place. while I was there, this was what I encountered and I thought it was an experience to share.

Bimpe, please I just have to say this, I know I have spoken about it twice or so but I have to do it again. You are my best friend and I cannot watch you go on like this. This guy is distracting you, can’t you see it? You have stopped singing! Remember, every time you open your mouth to sing, things change. People come looking for you to appreciate you for saving them from drowning, from suicide, from taking a wrong turn…and every time it happens, there is that light in your eyes. You are happy and things work out. But now, this guy doesn’t even give you time for yourself, for anything that you are interested in, talk less of pursing your dream …He has tampered with your love for God, your relationship with God no longer functions… (She heaved a sigh and held the hands of her friend, looking into her eyes; she opened her mouth to say more…) Bimpe, you have changed, you ….

I was sitting in a corner where this conversation was happening, the friends were oblivious of that fact so I stayed still. But when Bimpe responded to her friend, I almost gave myself out.

Tolu, please stop…stop this ranting, I beg you (Tolu, flinched surprisingly. Bimpe removed her hand from her friend’s, got up looked into Tolu’s eyes and dropped the bomb shell) It is my life, I can do with it what I wish. Who are you to judge me? Who are you to judge my relationship with God? How dare you Tolu. How… (Tolu, tries to interrupt)

This time, I wanted to turn and peep, it is not satisfying enough to eavesdrop, so as I shifted, my chair cringed and the friends looked back but they were not interested in their new discovery, especially Bimpe.

Bimpe, I am not judging you, I am simply… (She gets up, tries to place her hand on her friend’s back but Bimpe moves away with irritation written all over her face). Please try to understand me, I am just trying…

TOLU! (raising her voice) I don’t want to hear anymore…I have said it and I will say it again……I will do with my life whatever I want. It is my LIFE…. (She storms out with a loud hiss.) (Tolu is dumbfounded, she couldn’t move…Then, she remembers the person around who is looking at her now. So, she starts to walk away even though her feet were heavy)

I finally had the guts to turn around, well … not to eavesdrop anymore but Bimpe’s lines were coming back so strongly, the echoes were so loud… ‘I WILL DO WITH MY LIFE WHATEVER I WISH’. I was just too shocked to think. I sat there for a while and this was what was going on in my mind.

You cannot do with your life what you wish except you have the power to operate the air you breathe. You are too unsure about the next second of your life to hold on to it without giving it serious thoughts. Life is meaningless according to Solomon. He says “… life is a chasing after the wind”. So how come statements like ‘I can do with my life what I wish’ comes out from people’s lips without thoughts.

This is what baffles me the most in that conversation, “This guy is distracting you. Can’t you see it? You have stop singing. Remember, every time you open your mouth to sing, things change. People come looking for you to show appreciation for saving them from drowning, from suicide, from taking a wrong turn…and every time it happens, there is that light in your eyes”.

Here is my take on this, I also do not have the right to judge anyone, I have got weaknesses like you everyone but I have also learnt that we have been given so that we can be a give. We can’t ignore the gift or choose to do with it what we wish. The gift is a tool for humanity, it is a gift given for a purpose. A vessel cannot serve itself; its fulfillment is in meeting other people’s need. Your life is not about you so is mine not about me! We have been sent for a reason! It is our assignments to find out what to do with our gifts and when we do, get down to work. Don’t consult your feelings, don’t ask for opinions from your current situation and don’t take advice from those who have not been down that road.

Wake up my dear friend, smell the brewing coffee. You are uncontainable, there is too much on your inside to live an ordinary life. You are God’s special product … God’s image … God’s look alike …. How can you be here for being here sake? You are too loaded to be a WASTE! YOU ARE PRICELESS!

Meet Adebukola , soon to be Mrs…. *grinning*…… (That’s for another day). ‘Bukola is my colleague at work. I don’t know her for too many things but this much I know. There is a particular thing she does, she is so passionate about it she needs no encouragement. I am sure you are dying to know… BATIK!

Don’t tell me you don’t know anything about BATIK….Ok, ok! I will tell you. Take a ride with me. The word ‘BATIK’ is thought to be derived from the word ‘AMBATIK’ which means ‘a cloth with little dots’. The suffix ‘TIK’ means ‘little dot, a drop, point or to make dots’.

BATIK originates from Javanese word ‘TRITIK ’which describes a resist for dying where the patterns are reserved on textiles by tying and sewing areas prior to dying, similar to tie die techniques…
Batik is an art and a craft. It is simply the art of decorating using wax and dye. Batik is part of an ancient tradition and some of the finest batik cloth in the world is from Java, Indonesia where it has been practiced for centuries.

Hmmm! Lol, did you just take a deep breath? ….. Like, ‘that’s some history’. Hehehe! History is good o! Anyway, this is what I am driving at, you don’t have to do everything to be famous, you don’t need to be any other person to thrive. All you need to do is to get on your inside and find out what makes you tick. There is something that creates sparks within you and there is something that makes bubbles in your belly. There something that brightens your face like sunrise. There is something that you are happy to do even when you are tired and fagged out. That thing you do in spite of the raging storm. That thing that gives you satisfaction, it gives you joy. It puts a smile at the corner of your lips at the close of day. That is it! ….. That is your purpose. That is the tool God has given you to influence your world.

At times a gift may seem insignificant, don’t despise it … if you do…you will keep wandering on earth like a misfit; you will keep asking the question ‘why are things not working or why do I feel unfulfilled’? That small insignificant gift or endowment or talent is your tool for breakthrough.

Adebukola Oyedemi is the CEO of ‘Amoke Aladire Asiko’, she is to me not many things, but this part of her opens up some other aspects of life to me…she invariably teaches me discipline, creativity, patience, consistency, resilience and entrepreneurship…

God is the custodian of purpose; Give your life a meaning!

Just ME!

I hate routines, it smells too…I like change. I mean that’s why we have white rice, jollof rice, fried rice, coconut rice, Chinese rice…Routines are like stagnant water to me, it stinks and makes me want to puke. I know I have to produce result and not give reasons but I don’t like to do the same thing, the same time, the same way. It’s boring!

I don’t pray at the same time, same way and say same things every day. Since prayer is communication and it is important for me to pray, I apply all forms of communication. Sometimes I do the listening while I lie down, sit up or do house chores. I end up having one of d best ‘time outs’ with big dad. But when I fix a specific time to carry out a specific task that has to be done daily, weekly, or monthly, arggghhhh …I have never seen anyone as inconsistent as ME during this time.

I like to read novels more than motivational or inspirational books. If it’s d latter, I get stuck or it takes longer time to finish. But stories, hmmn! Stories keep me alive, open my mind, make me see beyond my nose, stories make issues, situations, circumstances of life vivid to me. I get inspired, renewed and ALIVE each time I read a novel. Now, get me right, I don’t just read anything. I read write-ups, short stories, articles and novels orchestrated towards my belief, values, and life goals.

I have tried to do stuffs like others. I have also tried to do things like those who have  inspired me overtime, I tried some of their routines and schedules but guess what… I always just fall flat like dough that’s lost its potential to rise.

I like to talk too …*grinning*… PRODUCTIVELY! But I like to sit and talk with individuals, two or maximum of three people per time. I don’t like to talk to people or to a large crowd. I am not saying I will never do that…but I enjoy one on one conversation. I like conversations that stimulate deeper relationships. When I have such opportunities I feel sparks on my inside. I want to do everything to see my audience of one leave excited, inspired and renewed. I want to say things that will make that person ruminate once in silence. My power is in simple words and my focus is to inspire.

I am comfortable with ME; I am relaxed in my very skin. I love to be ME and I remain ME. I can only be a better ME. I will never be ANYBODY!

As I write, I am making up my mind the more, I choose to be me, to explore my gifts and endowment. Importantly, to stick with the Potter…He made ME; He will teach me how to be me in accordance to purpose … That’s just ME!

What about you? Who are you?
Talk to God, He’s got the blue print!

My friend paid me a visit on a bright sunny day, but as soon as I opened my front polished door to invite her in, the sun seem to be setting all of a sudden as I saw her gloomy face. She hesitated before she walked in and I stared at her questioningly.

We sat and before I could open my mouth to offer her anything, she heaved a sigh,”I knew it”, she blurted out, almost in tears, “When am I going to succeed? When am I going to achieve any kind of success in all I set out to do? It looks as if I am not destined to reach my goals, I start out with the best of ideas but I don’t have results, I never do! I am not a child any longer…this whole thing is frustrating me… Sola, I feel like ending it all… I am just tired…. I mean….”

Shh! …… I put a finger to her lips. “Don’t ever say something of such, don’t ever conclude about your life like that. Don’t you not know that you are what you say….” I started chastising her. I calmed her down and encouraged her with some few words, telling her that all will be well and I told her not to give up. I wiped her tears with my palms and I offered her some snacks as she put herself together.

Later, I accompanied her to the car when she was leaving, I hugged her good bye and reminded her not to forget all I had told her earlier and she nodded with a smile. As soon as I shut my precious polished door (wink), I began to think. I thought about her situation thoroughly because I knew my friend to be very intelligent and I started to ask myself what the problem could be.

Bing! Bing! Bing! … Suddenly a light flipped on in my head……Passion! That’s what is missing. That’s what makes her start a project and not finish, that’s what makes her embark on a task and not complete it. Even though she comes up with the best of ideas and fantastic proposals, and I also wonder why I don’t usually come up with such, it occurred to me that the missing ingredient to make the fascinating sumptuous meal of success is passion. She’s got intentions, she’s got ideas  but she lacks the variable to complete the equation.

So the big question is……what is Passion? I set out to answer this question and below are my findings:

According to Toni Morris, “Passion is something resonating deeply within the soul. It is usually a sign of how God made us special.” Passion is any powerful or compelling emotion or feeling, as love or hate. It is a strong amorous feeling or desire. Passion is required for a meaningful life. It is not just something we need to survive, to gain notability, to succeed or to acquire anything you set out to achieve.

Usually, you hear statements like… “You must have passion to…., you must discover, find or possess passion to …”

The question is, does passion equal purpose? Not at all, passion does not equal purpose rather passion helps you to arrive at your destination. Passion creates purpose. Passion creates pursuits. It is the energy that fuels a project or task. It plays a similar role to inspiration. When passion is evident in a task, external constraints are out of it. It provides the flow that correlates directly with purpose. It is the fire that burns in your belly. Passion keeps your eye locked to your goal and it must lead you to engage in something greater than self.

Passion is a self defining activity that one likes or finds important, which one invests time and energy. It comes from basic human instinct, life events and experiences, positive thoughts. It is what differentiates humans from animals. It is the answer that emerges in your conscious mind when you ask sincere questions from yourself – why am I here? What am I supposed to do with my life? You can call PASSION appetite, craving, desire, eroticism, excitement, fondness, infatuation, urge…whatever you call it, see it in the light of Mac Anderson who encourages that you, “Find what makes your heart sing and create your own music.”

Note that passion is not obsession, obsession leads to frustration and disappointment, it leads to burn out. It is usually born out a wrong reason.

So, develop a STRONG REASON like my mentor would say, STRONG REASON to live, love, stay in that marriage, succeed in that business, raise that child, conquer that challenge, get that dream job, achieve that aspiration, forgive that person, overlook that mistake, overcome that fear, launch that vision, travel the world and inspire your world.

Ever seen a chair leaping around in pursuit of someone to sit on it? Same thing for purpose, purpose doesn’t go around looking for who to fulfill it. You are the one to find and achieve purpose. (smiles)…. that’s how purpose fulfill purpose……

That’s how a woman finds love… she finds a man by staying in her space. Heard this before…” He who FINDETH a wife FINDETH a good thing and obtains favour from the Lord.”

Lol! How does a man find a woman who is out of her space, searching for the one searching for her… ?

Stay in your space….Ile lapoti joko de idi!
